DESERT CENTER, Calif. -

Two people injured in a solo vehicle crash today on Interstate 10 near Desert Center had to be cut out of the wreckage, a county fire department spokeswoman said.

The accident was reported about 2:30 p.m. on westbound I-10 at Eagle Mountain Road, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

The unidentified occupants were cut out of the vehicle by firefighters shortly after 3 p.m. and airlifted to a hospital with "moderate to major" injuries, Hendrickson said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
