Washington, D.C. -

The United States Supreme Court will announce in late November whether it will review California's ban on same sex marriage.

On Monday the court announced a decision on whether to hear arguments on proposition 8 will be announced by November 26th.  Proposition 8 was approved by voters in 2008 and defined marriage as between one man and one woman.

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the measure unconstitutional.

Sponsors of the initiative are hoping to have that ruling overturned.

If the Supreme Court reviews the case, a ruling would be expected by the end of June of next year.  If the court denies the hearing, the 9th circuit decision would be allowed to go into effect and same sex weddings could resume as soon as this December in California.
