PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona's unemployment rate is down slightly due to growth and a drop in people looking for work.

The state Department of Administration reports that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April dropped to 8.2 percent, down from 8.6 percent in March.

Nationally, the unemployment rate was down to 8.1 percent, a tenth of a percentage point from March.

Arizona's economy added 9,300 non-farm jobs in April, with 84 percent of them coming from the private sector.

Seven of the 11 major economic sectors posted gains throughout April. Professional and business services was the sector with the biggest employment gain, an increase of 3,600 jobs.

Trade, transportation and utilities posted above average gains for April with 2,800 jobs. Construction had the next biggest gain with 1,900 jobs.
