Pinyon fire near Anza finally contained
A wildfire that charred seven acres northeast of Anza was contained today, with some firefighters expected to remain at the scene, a spokeswoman said.
Firefighters from multiple agencies managed to contain the blaze by 6 a.m. But one fire engine, a crew and a water tender were assigned to watch the fire area north of highways 74 and 371, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.
Firefighters were dispatched to the area at 2:32 p.m. Friday and fought the blaze that initially burned brush at a moderate rate and threatened no structures.
Containment reached 80 percent by 8 p.m. with full containment anticipated today, Hagemann said.
A cause was under investigation.
