PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

A Palm Springs doctor accused of sexual battery against an 18-year-old female volunteer at the clinic where he worked was released on bail today.

Daniel Glywn Walters, 66, was arrested about noon Thursday at his place of employment, SleepWise Sleep and Behavioral Medicine Center at 1801 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

He posted a $3,500 bond at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning today, according to jail records, which show he has a May 2 court date at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.

The young woman, whose name was withheld, contacted police to allege that Walters had "committed sexual battery upon her" on Tuesday and Wednesday while she volunteered as an extern at SleepWise, according to a police statement.

She started volunteering at the center on Monday, police said.
