RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — A Guatemalan national has been returned to Riverside County to face charges in a brutal 2002 kidnapping and sexual assault.

The Riverside County district attorney's office says Norman Alberto Juarez Pineda was taken into custody Saturday at Los Angeles International Airport. He is being held without bail.

Prosecutors allege Pineda went to his ex-wife's apartment in Desert Hot Springs, raped her over several hours and threatened to kill her with a 10-inch knife.

Pineda later allegedly took the woman to his Palm Springs home, took the victim's watch then took her to a bank and forced her to withdraw $300.

Pineda faces 15 felony counts, including kidnapping for robbery, rape by force and assault with a deadly weapon.

He's scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
