A 28-year-old Escondido man suspected of sexually assaulting a male acquaintance in Palm Springs was expected in court today.
Urbano Ricardo Rosas was arrested at about 7:50 p.m. on Sunday in the 2100 block of Calle Papagayo, where a sexual assault was reported. A 21-year-old Moreno Valley man told police he had been sexually assaulted by a male acquaintance in the backyard of a vacant home under construction, Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff said.
The alleged victim sustained unspecified injuries during the assault and was transported to a local hospital.
Rosas was arrested at a residence across the street from the location of the alleged assault and taken to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, where he was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. He was booked on suspicion of sodomy by use of force or injury, sodomy of an unconscious or asleep victim and oral copulation by use of force or injury. He was expected to be arraigned today at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to jail records.
No criminal charges had been filed as of this morning, according to court records. Kovaleff said police got surveillance video of the attack from cameras at the location.
