Kevin Ware injury hits home for Joe Theismann
Theismann playing in Kraft Nabisco pro-am
Former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann is in the celebrity field of this week's Kraft Nabisco pro-am at Mission Hills Country Club.
Like millions of people he watched in horror over the weekend when Louisville guard Kevin Ware shattered his right leg in an NCAA Tournament quarterfinal game against Duke.
It brought back memories for Theismann. In November of 1985, his career was ended when his right leg snapped on a tackle during a Monday night game against the Giants.
Since they suffered similar injuries, Theismann reached out to Ware and believes he will play basketball again.
"He doesn't have that entitlement. I should have been there, I should have done this. He realizes that it was a door that was closed and now there's gonna be another one opened," said Theismann.
Ware is already out of the hospital after having his tibia and fibula reset and a rod inserted into his leg. Doctors believe if he doesn't run into any complications, Ware could be playing basketball again within a year.
