PALM DESERT, Calif. -

An 18-year-old Indio man was arrested today for allegedly stealing a bottle of alcohol from a CVS Pharmacy in Palm Desert and attacking an employee as he was leaving.

The robbery was reported shortly after 1 a.m. at the CVS in the 42000 block of Washington Street. A man entered the store, took a bottle of alcohol and "assaulted" an employee as he ran out the door with the bottle, sheriff's Sgt. Ken Black said.

The employee received minor injuries, but didn't need medical treatment, Black said.

The suspect, Angel Michael Rivas, was arrested at the intersection of Washington and Avenue of the States and booked into the county jail in Indio.

He was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail and was expected to be arraigned on Monday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to jail records.
