Monsoonal moisture and daytime heating will bring scattered thunderstorms to Riverside County and the Coachella Valley Monday, posing a threat of flash flooding, forecasters said.

A flash flood watch will be in effect from 10 a.m. through this evening for the Inland Empire, the mountains and the Coachella Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

"A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding," the NWS advised. "Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation."

Recently burned areas can be especially susceptible to flash flooding.

The Weather Service advised highs today will be in the mid-80s to mid-90s in the Inland Empire, mid-70s to mid-80s in the mountains and in the mid-90s in the Coachella Valley.
