The Integrated Wealth Management Fashion Week on El Paseo is Palm Desert's most stylish event of the year. All things fashionable and local were showcased Tuesday night under the big white tent. Some collections were trendy, chic, with a twist of bohemian.
"Fashion is always changing. You have to make people buy. We come up with new things all the time," said Trish McFarlane, the owner of BB One at the Gardens on El Paseo.
McFarlane says that's half the fun of it. She's bulking up on dresses, belts and more at her store, looking to appeal to fans of all shapes and sizes during Fashion Week.
"It most certainly creates a hype, gets people excited. We have lots of events in-store," said McFarlane.
BB One was one of 15 El Paseo stores showcased during the El Paseo Runway Show, presenting the newest and best of spring 2013 fashions.
Sara O'Flynn, the marketing director of the Gardens on El Paseo, says the week is expected to draw in about 20,000 fashion lovers.
"Local businesses truly benefit. The flavor of El Paseo is part of Fashion Week," she said.
Ellen Read tried on clothes at the retailer and looked ready to hit the runway. She says it's the time of year she always looks forward to.
"Fun and fashion just go together! We are pleased and proud to support local businesses," said Read.
The best in the west has shoppers splurging a little more than usual. Read says, “that's why we don't take the husband with us. We leave him at home."
Impulse shopping is good news for BB One "and to everybody. It creates a movement on the street and activity. It's fun, gives a wonderful atmosphere," said McFarlane.
A week full of events designed to please fashionistas near and far.
"We have been busy. We will be busy and hope to have a lot of people in here tomorrow to enjoy our beautiful desert,” said McFarlane.
Many events this week also give back to Valley charities. For information on events and tickets, go to www.fashionweekelpaseo.com
