PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

Local law enforcement agencies will operate DUI and driver's license checkpoints tonight at undisclosed locations in Palm Springs and La Quinta.

The Palm Springs checkpoint will operate from 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. and the La Quinta checkpoint will go from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.

The checkpoints are aimed at reducing the number of people killed or injured on local roads by people driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, according to authorities.

The checkpoints are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
