PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

An alleged gang member suspected of having a loaded handgun and an open container of alcohol in his car in Palm Springs was out on bail Monday.

Darius Lee, 24, was the driver of a vehicle stopped in the 300 block of Sunview Avenue, where police responded to an unrelated domestic disturbance about 5:40 p.m. Saturday. Police spoke with three people in the vehicle, including Lee, and discovered all three had gang contacts, Sgt. William Hutchinson said.

Lee, a documented gang member, allegedly had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, and police found a loaded handgun in a hidden compartment. Lee was also on probation, Hutchinson said.

Lee was arrested and booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, where he posted a $5,000 bond on Sunday, according to jail records.
