PALM SPRINGS -- A Redondo Beach woman who became separated from her hiking companion was found by a sheriff's deputy near the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, a sheriff's sergeant said today.Janice Dannebaum, 52, was reported missing by her friend just before 7 p.m. Monday, a Riverside County sheriff's deputy said. The two went hiking on Wellman Ridge Trail in the San Jacinto Mountains and, after they got separated about 4 p.m., they were unable to reach each other by cell phone, the deputy said. A sheriff's deputy found the woman near the top of the tramway, and the Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit was sent to get her, he said. Deputies reminded hikers to set a time and place to meet in case someone gets separated. Cellular telephone service in the mountains is spotty at best.
