California showed few signs of economic recovery last month as the state's unemployment rate remained stagnant at 12.3 percent.

The state Employment Development Department said Friday that the jobless rate in July was unchanged from the previous month. The jobless figure is a half-percent higher than the unemployment rate for July 2009.

For the second month in a row, California reported a net loss in jobs, with a decrease of 9,400 non-farm positions. Most of those were temporary jobs with the U.S. Census.

The state added 21,000 jobs in other areas, with education and health services seeing the biggest boost.

Meantime, the jobless rate in July for Riverside County was also unchanged at 15.3 percent, where about 140,300 people are looking for work.

The unemployment rate in San Bernardino County was 14.8 percent in July, and 127,900 people are looking for jobs.
