CATHEDRAL CITY -- A retired Palm Springs police officer drew a gun a parolee who was arrested today on suspicion of trying to burglarize two homes in Cathedral City.

Steven Turgeon, 42, of Yucca Valley, was taken into custody about 10:30 a.m. at a home in the 28000 block of Avenida Primavera, Cathedral City police Sgt. Dave Hatfield said.

Turgeon is accused of getting into a garage in the 28200 block of Horizon Road about 9:50 a.m., Hatfield said.

A woman who found the man fled and reported the intruder, he said.

A half-hour later, police got a report of a burglary on Avenida Primavera, where a woman reported that a "strange man was in their home fighting with her husband," according to Hatfield.

The retired police officer drew a gun on the suspect and held him for police, the sergeant said.

Turgeon was identified as the person who entered the first home, police said.

He was on parole for a drug charge, according to court records. Turgeon pleaded guilty in 2008 to possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to a two-year prison term.

Hatfield said parole agents were trying to have his parole revoked.
