Six More Students React To Tuberculosis Skin Test At La Quinta Middle School
Additional Test Needed Before Confirmation Can Be Made
POSTED: 8:41 pm PDT April 29, 2010UPDATED: 10:56 am PDT April 30, 2010LA QUINTA -- Six people will undergo more testing to determine if they have Tuberculosis.The people in question had contact weeks ago with a student at Col. Mitchell Paige Middle School in La Quinta who is suspected of having TB.The student at the time showed symptoms of the infection, and is now in isolation.Dr. Edward Ruiz practices family medicine in La Quinta. He says, "If you have a child in school, and they have a fever, or if your child is coughing or has chest pain, those are all symptoms."This six people slated for re-tests will now be given chest X-rays to further determine if TB is a possibility. The X-rays will likely take 8 weeks. Since none of them had symptoms, they are not considered a risk and will continue to attend school.Tuberculosis can be spread by someone sneezing, coughing or talking to close to you. Dr. Ruiz suggests using common-sense-prevention such as good oral and hand hygiene to keep you risk of infection down.
