A long-time political figure in the desert passed away Friday.
Barry Nestande, the chief of staff for late Riverside County Supervisor Roy Wilson, died suddenly Friday afternoon.
Nestande started working with John Benoit back in 2002, when Benoit was elected to the state assembly.
Barry Nestande's brother, Brian, now holds that assembly seat.
Benoit tells News Channel 3 that he and Barry had lunch Friday, and that Barry went to the gym in the afternoon.
He may have had a heart attack.
Benoit says Nestande was his "right hand man," and it's going to be difficult to move on without him.
Nestande is survived by his wife, Marrilee, a step-son, and a six year-old son. Barry Nestande was 49 years old.
