1998: An expelled student, Kipland Kinkel, 15, kills two students and wounds another 25 with a semi-automatic rifle at Thurston High School in Springfield, Ore. Police also discover that Kinkel had killed his parents before the rampage. He would later be sentenced to 111 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
