1936: Actor and film director Dennis Hopper, best known for movies such as "Easy Rider," "Apocalypse Now" (pictured), "Blue Velvet," "Hoosiers" and "Speed," is born in Dodge City, Kan. Hopper was nominated for an Oscar for co-writing the screenplay for "Easy Rider," which he also directed, and for Best Supporting Actor for "Hoosiers."
