1931: Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh, who led the San Francisco 49ers to three Super Bowl titles in the 1980s, is born in Los Angeles, Calif. Walsh compiled a 92-59-1 over 10 seasons with the 49ers and also coached the Stanford Cardinal football team, during which time he popularized the West Coast offense. He died of leukemia at age 75 on July 30, 2007.
