1927: Playwright and screenwriter Neil Simon is born in The Bronx, N.Y. Simon is known for plays such as "Barefoot in the Park," "The Odd Couple" and "Lost in Yonkers." He's been nominated for four Academy Awards, three for adapting his plays "The Odd Couple," "The Sunshine Boys" and "California Suite," and one for his original screenplay for 1977's "The Goodbye Girl." He's also won three Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize.
