1938: Defense attorney Clarence Darrow dies from pulmonary heart disease at the age of 80 in Chicago, Ill. Darrow is best known for defending teenage killers Leopold and Loeb in their 1924 trial for murdering 14-year-old Robert "Bobby" Franks and defending John T. Scopes in the Scopes "Monkey" Trial in 1925.
