2009: Recent graduate Tim Kretschmer, 17, shoots and kills nine students and three teachers at Albertville-Realschule, a secondary school in Winnenden, Germany. After fleeing the scene and killing another three people, Kretschmer fatally shoots himself during a shootout with police at a car dealership in a nearby town. Another nine people were injured by Kretschmer in the shooting, which led to tightened weapons restrictions in Germany.
