1948: Actress and singer Bernadette Peters, one of the most critically acclaimed Broadway performers, who has also starred in movies such as "The Jerk," "Silent Movie," "Pennies from Heaven" and "Annie," is born in Queens, N.Y. Peters has received nominations for seven Tony Awards, winning two, and nine Drama Desk Awards, winning three. She also won a Golden Globe in 1982 for her role in "Pennies from Heaven."
