1942: Following an assault by Japanese forces during World War II, British Lt. Gen. Arthur Percival surrenders Singapore. Percival is seen here on the far right with other British officers on their way to surrender. About 80,000 Indian, United Kingdom and Australian soldiers become prisoners of war, the largest surrender of British-led military personnel in history.
