1547: King Henry VIII of England dies at the age of 55 in the Palace of Whitehall in London. His 9-year-old son, Edward VI becomes king, and the first Protestant ruler of England. Besides his six marriages, Henry VIII is known for his role in the separation of the Church of England from the Roman Catholic Church.
