2011: Sargent Shriver, the husband of Eunice Kennedy Shriver who served in both the John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson administrations, dies at the age of 95 in Bethesda, Md. Shriver was the driving force behind the creation of the Peace Corps and founded the Job Corps, Head Start and other programs as the architect of Johnson's "War on Poverty" in the 1960s. He also served as the United States Ambassador to France and was George McGovern's running mate in 1972 as the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president, replacing Thomas Eagleton, who had resigned from the ticket.
