1875: Albert Schweitzer, the theologian and physician who would receive the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize for his philosophy of "Reverence for Life," is born in Kaysersberg in the province of Alsace-Lorraine, at that time part of the German Empire but now Haut-Rhin, France.
