1935: A prototype of the Douglas DC-3 airplane flies for the first time, on the 32nd anniversary of the Wright Brothers' flight at Kitty Hawk, at Clover Field in Santa Monica, Calif. The speed and range of the fixed-wing propeller-driven airliner would revolutionize air transport in the 1930s and 1940s.
