1972: Apollo 17, the last Apollo moon mission, is launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The launch is also the first night launch of a U.S. human spaceflight and the final crewed launch of a Saturn V rocket. The crew takes the photograph known as "The Blue Marble" as they leave the Earth.
