1984: The action-comedy movie "Beverly Hills Cop," starring Eddie Murphy, premieres in theaters. Murphy would shoot to international stardom playing Axel Foley, a street-smart Detroit cop who heads to Beverly Hills to solve the murder of his best friend. The movie would earn $234 million at the domestic box office, narrowly making it the biggest hit of 1984 just ahead of "Ghostbusters."
