1955: The Montgomery Bus Boycott begins four days after Rosa Parks (pictured) was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Ala., city bus to a white passenger. The boycott would last until Dec. 20, when a U.S. District Court ruling ended segregation on Montgomery public buses.
