1951: Baseball player Shoeless Joe Jackson, best remembered for being part of the Chicago White Sox team that threw the 1919 World Series, dies of a heart attack at the age of 64 in Greenville, S.C. As a result of the scandal, which became known as the Black Sox Scandal, Jackson and seven other members of the team were banned from baseball after the 1920 season.
