2005: In Amiens, France, Isabelle Dinoire becomes the first person to undergo a partial face transplant after being mauled by a dog earlier in the year. In a 15-hour operation, surgeons use tissues, muscles, arteries and veins from a brain-dead woman to rebuild Dinoire's face.
