1977: Gymnast Kerri Strug, who won an All-Around gold medal with the U.S. women's gymnastics team at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, is born in Tucson, Ariz. She is best remembered for performing the vault to help guarantee the gold medal despite having injured her ankle and for subsequently being carried to the podium by her coach, Bela Karolyi.
