1977: The sci-fi drama "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," starring Richard Dreyfuss, Francois Truffaut, Melinda Dillon and Teri Garr, and directed by Steven Spielberg, premieres in New York City. The movie, about a lineman in Indiana whose life changes after a close encounter with a UFO, debuts to critical and financial success, grossing $337 million compared to its $20 million budget.
