1981: Actor William Holden, who starred in such blockbusters as "Sunset Boulevard," "The Bridge on the River Kwai," "The Wild Bunch" and "Network," bleeds to death after slipping on a rug while intoxicated in his Santa Monica, Calif., apartment and severely cutting his forehead bedside table. Holden, who was 63 when he died, received Oscar nominations for Best Actor for "Sunset Boulevard" and "Network" and won in 1954 for "Stalag 17."
