1983: A bomb explodes inside the United States Capitol shortly before 11 p.m. No people are harmed, but an estimated $250,000 in damage is caused. In May 1988, six members of the "Resistance Conspiracy" would be arrested and charged with the bombing, as well as related bombings of Fort McNair and the Washington Navy Yard. The bombing also marked the beginning of tightened security measures throughout the Capitol.
