1979: Future Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky makes his NHL debut at the age of 18. Gretzky and his Edmonton Oilers lose to the Chicago Blackhawks, however Gretzky picks up his first-ever NHL point, an assist, on Kevin Lowe's goal midway through the first period. Gretzky would end his first year in the league by scoring 137 points, and winning the Hart Trophy as the NHL's Most Valuable Player.
