1835: The Texas Revolution begins with the Battle of Gonzales. Mexican soldiers attempt to retrieve a small cannon that had been given to the people of Gonzales, Texas, to protect themselves from Comanche raids, but encounter stiff resistance from a hastily assembled militia.
