From Palm Springs to Chiriaco Summit, and many places in between, the desert of Southern California will be filled with events to honor those that have served our country on Veterans Day, November 11th. Below is a list of Veteran's Day happenings:
Palm Springs: Veterans Day Parade starts at 3:30 p.m. The parade will move northbound up Palm Canyon Drive, ending at Alejo Road. A concert and fireworks show follows the conclusion of the parade. This year's theme is, "Honoring All Who Serve."
Desert Hot Springs: Tribute to veterans at Veterans Memorial Park begins at 10 a.m. The address is 10101 Palm Drive. This year's theme is, "Remembering the U.S.O." Entertainment will include pre-event music by the Desert Hot Springs High School Jazz Band, singing, and swing dancing. The keynote speaker will be 36th District Congressman Raul Ruiz. Light refreshments will be served.
Twentynine Palms: The Morongo Basin Veterans Day Tribute begins at 8 a.m. with a veterans' breakfast, free to all veterans, firefighters, law enforcement, service members, elected officials and staff. The breakfast will be hosted by the Twentynine Palms Mojave Vipers at the Twentynine Palms Senior Center, 6539 Adobe Road.
A Veterans Day tribute begins at 10 a.m. in Veterans' Park next to City Hall at 6136 Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms. The Marine Sandpiper and the Marine Corps Color Guard will open the ceremony at 11 a.m. A free hot dog and hamburger barbecue will follow the ceremony, sponsored by Joshua Springs Cavalry Chapel.
Indian Wells: Veterans Day Ceremony from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at City Hall, 44-950 Eldorado Drive (at Highway 111). Major General Kenneth Bouldin, USAR (Ret.) will be the keynote speaker. Names of Indian Wells veterans newly inscribed on the tribute wall in the Eisenhower Walk of Honor will be unveiled.
Chiriaco Summit: General Patton's granddaughter will be the keynote speaker for the General George S. Patton Memorial Museum's 25th Anniversary celebration. Helen Patton is founder of The Patton Foundation, working to help keep the memory of the World War II generation alive, as well as to help soldiers, veterans and their families.
The Patton Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free on Veterans Day. The Veterans Day program begins at 11 .m. with an air salute fly over by World War II aircraft. The Korean War Wall will be unveiled. Special booths, exhibits, and military vehicles will be on display. There will be military re-enactments, and a chili cook-off contest.

Free car wash for veterans at Executive Car Wash, 77-960 Country Club Drive, Palm Desert.
Fundraiser at Wang's in the Desert restaurant, 424 S Indian Canyon Dr, Palm Springs. Local businesses are donating in support of the Veteran's Day Fundraiser for the Palm Springs Fire Department's 9/11 Memorial Installation featuring a steel beam from the World Trade Center. A piece of the steel beam will be on display at the fundraiser. The suggested door donation is $20.
