PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

Gene Autry Trail was reopened Thursday morning at around 7:45 after police closed the road south of Interstate 10 late Wednesday night because of strong winds and blowing sand that reduced visibility along the road through the White Water wash.

Motorists were warned to plan for a longer drive in and out of Palm Springs early Thursday morning because of the road closure, and an unrelated accident.

High winds overturned a big rig at Windy Point just west of Palm Springs along Highway 111.

Meteorologist Jerry Steffen said the high winds were forecast to die down Thursday afternoon.
