Riverside County deputy shoots knife-wielding man
Police opened fire after the suspect reportedly refused to cooperate
Authorities say a Riverside County sheriff's deputy has shot and killed a man who refused to drop a knife.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says it happened just before 5 p.m. Tuesday on Railroad Avenue between the communities of Cabazon and Whitewater.
Sgt. Lisa McConnell says deputies were searching for the man because they had received a tip that he was armed with knives.
She says when a deputy spotted and tried to contact the man, he brandished a knife and came toward the deputy, ignoring orders to drop the weapon.
The deputy shot him. His name hasn't been released.
