PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

A 23-year-old Joshua Tree man who was struck by his own pickup truck in a chain-reaction crash almost three months ago died on Tuesday of his injuries, according to the coroner's office.

Gavin Alexander died at 5:45 a.m. at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he had been hospitalized since the Feb. 21 crash on eastbound Interstate 10, a mile west of State Route 62, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office.

At 6:45 p.m. that day, Alexander pulled his pickup truck over and got out for unknown reasons, and his vehicle was struck by another pickup, causing his own truck to slam into him, according to the coroner's office.
