Actress Ashley Judd will speak in Rancho Mirage tonight as part of the city's annual speakers series.
The talk at the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower Medical Center will start at 7 p.m. Novelist Jackie Collins started the series earlier this month.
Judd, 45, has appeared in more than 20 movies and in Broadway productions and on television. In 2010, she received a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2012.
Her starring roles include ``Double Jeopardy,'' ``Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood,'' ``De-Lovely,'' and ``Ruby in Paradise,'' which won the Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury prize in 1993. She has also traveled, testified and spoken in support of humanitarian efforts, including public health and poverty alleviation, according to her website.
Her memoir, ``All That is Bitter and Sweet,'' was published in 2011.
Judd, the daughter of country singer Naomi Judd, was married to Scottish race car driver Dario Franchitti from 2001 until last year.
Other speakers scheduled this season are former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers on Feb. 19 and Barbara Pierce Bush and Jenna Hager, daughters of former President George W. Bush, on March 19.
Tickets cost $60 for preferred seating and $45 for general seating.
Admittance to after-parties with each speaker is available for an additional fee.
