PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

Coachella Valley students will participate in International Walk to School Day this morning, and a local boxing champion will lead one group in warm-ups.

International Walk to School Day is meant to promote physical activity, teach safe walking skills to children, and create awareness of how walkable a community is and where improvements can be made.

Cathedral City native Timothy Bradley will lead warm-ups at 8 a.m. for Katherine Finchy Elementary School students at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Groups from other schools will gather in various locations to walk to their schools, according to Palm Springs Unified School District spokeswoman Joan Boiko.

The schedule:

7 a.m. - Desert Springs Middle School students will meet at Stater Bros., 13200 Palm Drive in Desert Hot Springs to walk to the school at 66-755 2 Bunch Palms Trail;

7:15 a.m. - Landau Elementary School students will meet at Panorama Park, 28905 Avenida Maravilla in Cathedral City to walk to the school, 30-310 Landau Blvd.;

7:30 a.m. - Two Bunch Palms Elementary School students will meet at Tedesco Park, 66140 W. Arroyo Drive in Desert Hot Springs to walk to the school, 14250 West Dr.;

7:30 a.m. - Bubbling Wells Elementary School students will meet at Mission Springs Park, 66750 Park Lane in Desert Hot Springs to walk to the school, 67-501 Camino Campanero;

7:45 a.m. - Cielo Vista Charter Elementary School students will meet at DeMuth Park, 4365 E. Mesquite Ave. in Palm Springs to walk to the school, 650 S. Paseo Dorotea;

7:50 a.m. - Edward Wenzlaff Elementary School students will meet at the Boys & Girls Club at the corner of Cactus Drive and 8th Street in Desert Hot Springs to walk to the school, 11625 West Drive;

8 a.m. - Katherine Finchy Elementary School students meet at the Palm Springs Convention Center, 277 N. Avenida Caballeros, to warm up with Bradley and walk to the school, 777 E. Tachevah Drive;

8 a.m. - Cathedral City Elementary School students will meet at the corner of Dinah Shore and Eagle Canyon drives in Cathedral City to walk to the school, 69300 Converse Road.
