Rep. Raul Ruiz's first district office will open in Palm Springs today.
The office is at 777 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way. Ruiz, who was sworn in Thursday in Washington D.C., also wants to open offices in Indio and in the western part of the 36th Congressional District.
The 40-year-old emergency room physician beat Republican Mary Bono Mack in November to represent the redrawn district. Bono Mack served 14 years after winning a special election to replace her husband, Sonny Bono, who died in a ski accident.
Ruiz will serve on the House Committee on Natural Resources and Committee on Veterans' Affairs, according to spokeswoman Whitney Mitchell.
