PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

Palm Springs International Airport will open its annual holiday economy parking lot Thursday morning.

The extra parking and terminal shuttle service will help the airport handle the Christmas holiday travel rush.  The economy service now charges $10 a day for overnight travelers.  The same service cost $6 a day last year.

Shuttle transportation is available from the economy lot to the main terminal between Dec. 20 and Dec. 25, from 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

City spokeswoman Amy Blaisdell said travelers should arrive at least 90 minutes before their flights to allow enough time to park, check in and go through security.

The airport is at 3400 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way. For information, go to
