Dump truck catches fire in Rancho Mirage
No injuries reported when waste removal truck caught fire Thursday afternoon in Rancho Mirage
Around 3 p.m. today, a dump truck caught fire on Sunny Lane in Rancho Mirage just east of Da Vall Drive.
The Burrtec waste truck was on normal duty when the driver noticed smoke coming from the cab. The driver called 911 and by the time firefighters arrived the cab was fully engulfed in flames and the fire had spread to the back of the truck.
The truck was near a few homes in the area, but firefighters were able to put out the flames before any further damage was done. Hazmat crews were called to contain the runoff from the truck. The cleanup is expected to take several hours.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
